Hello performers, from everyone in the TPS family we hope that you had a lovely Summer break and are ready for the Autumn term. What an amazing year it has been for The Performance Studios so far. We think a recap of our recent show is definitely needed…
Our August show Take One: A Night at The Movies, was a night that we will never forget. From the moment Miss Ciara found out that our stage school had the opportunity to put on a show at The Lancaster Grand, all our team and wonderful students were hard at work to ensure that the show would be a success. As this was our first show it meant a lot to everyone involved, including our students, the team and all our supporters, families and friends.
As with any first show, it’s always going to be nerve-wracking, as everyone strives to do the very best they possibly can. However, it is also an incredibly exciting and enjoyable journey which we all embarked on together as a family. We felt the pressure at times, for example when there were last minute alterations to choreography or when a student in the dress run had a slight ‘wobble’ with stage nerves just before show day, but with the help of our team and students, the backstage support helped one of our students sing her solo and we made it through together!
Both laughter and tears on and off the stage were present that evening as the audience and team felt immensely proud of our students. Not only that, but our students were also proud of themselves and rightly so! They realised that they can work towards a goal and perform confidently in front of a 350-seat audience, with some as young as four years old hitting the stage. That is our priority here, to encourage our students to feel confident enough to perform and to overcome any nerves that they have when on stage. That’s what families are for right? To encourage, support and influence self-belief in one another.
Every piece within the show went smoothly, from what we could see of the audience’s reactions, we can tell that they loved every part, but a very special moment that we witnessed backstage was the seconds before our students were due on stage. Many of them feeling the weight of their nerves in the wings as their role was fast-approaching, relying on the reassurance and encouragement of their friends and tutors, but also feeling the overwhelming excitement of entering the stage.
After their scene had finished, they would then come back to the wings, behind the curtains, with huge grins on their faces, grins that expressed just how proud and happy they truly felt in that moment. This was something that the tutors felt so strongly about because over the past few months they have witnessed first-hand, the growth of their students, who have transformed their nerves and doubts into self-confidence and belief.
We want to thank everyone that came to support our students in our first ever show and we can’t wait to create and present to you our future shows. Every show we hope to make better than the last. Here’s to many more show days and to building the confidence of our students! Let’s bring on the Autumn term…are you ready for our next performance?
