Miss Ciará's Story

My journey began when I was eleven years old, when I became a member of the Liverpool Empire Theatre Company. Over a period of seven years, I performed in numerous Musical Theatre shows, including; Footloose, West Side Story, Cats, In the Heights and Annie. Following on from this, I gained a place at LIPA 4:19, where I studied for two years. After partaking in an audition, I secured a place at the newly opened LIPA Sixth Form, where I trained to become an Actor. I am proud to have completed this programme of study with the highest possible grades.

Whilst studying at LIPA I decided to join The Everyman Theatre Company for two years, where I developed an understanding of several new theatre techniques, including devising, improvisation, physical theatre, practitioner theory, stand up comedy, clowning and how to incorporate theatre into various shows. Whilst studying at LIPA and becoming a member of The Everyman Theatre Company, my passion for Performing Arts meant I didn’t just want to stop there, I had a burning desire to keep learning and growing. This led me to become a volunteer at a local theatre school in Liverpool, known as ‘Stage Door’.

How would you summarise this period of time?

Looking back, this period of my life was jam-packed with learning and fine tuning my skill-set, which serves me well to this day.

What was next for you, having completed your time at LIPA?

Upon completing my studies at LIPA, I featured as an Actor in a Netflix movie called ‘Brooklyn’ by the makers of ‘Game of Thrones’ and also featured as a signing Actor in the TV series ‘Deaf Funny’. However, I had to make a choice about what I wanted to do next. I guess you could say at this point, my desire to learn was still very much in full force, and so, I made the decision to join Lancaster University to study a BA in Theatre. Alongside studying Theatre, I opted to partake in Entrepreneurship studies, where I combined my creative background with all things business and this incited my vision for TPS! To add to this, I gained exposure into what it was like to manage my own school having took on a role as School Principal for a local theatre school, known as ‘School For Stage Lancaster’. Following the closure of School For Stage, an opportunity presented itself for me to launch my own theatre school and so in my final year at University, I took the leap and launched TPS, which despite a global pandemic and several other hurdles, has grown from strength to strength.

What advice would you give those wanting to undertake a similar journey?

My biggest piece of advice would be to do what you love and follow your passions. I adore my job, and when you do what you love it is easy to roll out of bed in the morning as it never feels like work! Having recently returned to Lancaster University as a Teaching Fellow/Entrepreneur in Residence, I’m able to share this important message with the students I engage with.

What’s next…

I’m really looking forward to what the future holds for TPS and to continue making it a second-home for many young performers. I have some big plans for 2023 and beyond, so all I can say is watch this space…
